Re: Prudential RideLondon 100 Cycle Ride - 4 August 2019

Finished in 6hrs 2 mins riding time; includes about 25mins at 2mph when we were held up at Ripley, (around 42miles), due to a couple of bad accidents. Help for Heroes is delighted, as I am...

Re: Prudential RideLondon 100 Cycle Ride - 4 August 2019

Training continues and finally got tested outside twice last week. I completed a tough, 43miles route on Sunday in the Chilterns in 2hrs 59mins, 3054ft of ascent. This was 10 mins faster overall than the last time that I rode this route, with Steve Lee, in September 2018, plus PRs on all the major c...

Re: Prudential RideLondon 100 Cycle Ride - 4 August 2019

Training is going well; currently all indoors with a bike connected to my Tacx Neo turbo in the torture space, otherwise known as my garage. So far this year, 360 miles with 64,311 ft of ascent; twice Everest! Focus on climbing now switched to distance so should be ready to resume strong training ou...

Re: Kilimanjaro

Just got back today. The 3 of us made it to the top of Africa on Friday 5 October at 08:05 (05:05 UK time), a couple of hours after dawn in Tanzania. [The air has 40% less oxygen at that height so breathing was difficult and the temperature well below Celsius freezing point.] By that time it had war...

Re: Kilimanjaro

OK, I'll help, but we better get a picture of the forage cap at the top of that little hill! Yes, my original 95th forage cap that served me well in the ranks will be worn. That elephant will never carry all 3 of you to the top ! Just call me Hannibal! A nice chianti will go well too! You got kidna...

I've spoken to Ben Townsend of 2/95th who is one of their professional researchers and he will be joining this topic soon. He's not sure if he will be able to provide much information but is certainly keen to discuss.

Re: Lieutenant Molloy

Wonderful, Georgie. The battle honours for the Pyrenees, Nivelle and Nive were a series of many battles and skirmishes so it is not surprising that he would have referred to them by other names. Obidos was a an initial encounter that 2/95th had with the French prior to Rolica but not sufficient to w...

Hi Georgie, Good to hear again from you in Western Australia. Thanks for persevering on the logon registration, your email was just the ticket. As I said to you, I keep the logon registration non-automatic to reduce the number of spam logons for services etc that are totally unrelated to our hobby. ...

Re: Walcheren Campaign Bicentenary - July 2009

There's also this one of Day 2's assault on the French bastion where 1/95th had the honour of being the Forlorn Hope that managed to clear the way for the 44th heavies without loss, despite entreaties for us to commit suicide! You can see us at the foot of the hill skirmishing and probing for the ch...
