Re: Oporto and Albuera Despatch - May 2009
Quick summary: Oporto: 2 street battles, one at night - awesome. 1 practice river crossing and then for real for second battle. Loads of rounds fired, extremely loud. Medal at the end of the campaign. Badajoz: Les and I walked round the whole walled sections, me in uniform. I did a storming of ditch...

Re: Lt Jonathan Layton
Sorry we've been quiet on this one but it is the closed season and people are occupied on catching up with their real lives.
We've done a little research but have not progressed far. You may have got some info from our friends at 2/95th who have expertise in these things? We'll keep delving though.

Filming - Rivers BBC
Today, Dave Preece (2/44th) and I had the privilege to partake in the filming of Griff Rhys Jones' new series, "Rivers", at Waltham Gunpowder Mills. We will be signing autographs at Landguard.

Hi Paul, Good to hear from you, I have seen these pictures before and been told about you and the early days of the 95th Rifles Living History Society in the late Seventies. I have to make a confession and apologise but I have inadvertantly deleted your logon when clearing out spam users. Please rei...

Apologies, I've rechecked my source and Amos Norcott was the Lt Colonel and Wilkens the Major; I noticed an error in the summary list of the 2/95th personel. That should clear up Wilkens role! Both officers were badly wounded whilst the Battalion was in square and had to quit the field. The Battalio...

Hi Marty, yet another person with interesting ancester! All that I've managed to glean from my own set of Napoleonic literature is that 2nd LT William Shaw was indeed at Waterloo serving directly to the 2/95th Majors Norcott and Wilkins. The Lieutenant to whom he would ordinarily report was assigned...

Merry Xmas John and thank you for your visit to our site. Wow, I am green with envy on such an ancestor. Good to see you researching and keeping his name alive. Rifleman James Ashworth, 1/95 No. 8 Company under Capt G Miller's command at Corunna. Obviously survived the retreat and the battle. He gai...

Hi Ian, sorry for a delay in a reply but we've just had our AGM at the weekend and everyone was tied up in that. Very interesting topic, I'm quite envious of such a family history. At the time of your g-g grandfather the regiment would have been the Rifle Brigade; they came out of the line in Feb 18...
