Saturday 8 July 2006
We had an excellent day as guests of the Royal Green Jackets Regimental Association at the Sir John Moore Barracks, Winchester.
We set up a mini-Living History display including a montage of items from our Colonel's time in the Regiment in the early 1950's. Both the Colonel's and our Napoleonic period displays provided a good basis for interesting conversations with RGJ veterans and the serving RGJ riflemen alike. The young men of the RGJ proved to be very knowledgable and proud of their roots in the the 95th Rifles and gave us a good insight into the similarities between their kit and that of 200 years ago.
Meanwhile, our brother riflemen of the 2/95 and 5/60 were an integral part of a short firing display on the main parade ground.
We were especially honoured that our officers and battalion (1/95) lead the 95th Regiment re-enactors in the of RGJ Veterans march past at the end of the event.
